Christmas Gathering 2018

The “Christmas Gathering” musical evening was established by Armenian Assembly in 2018, with the goal of conferring grants in honor of prominent Armenian musicians – Komitas, Aram Khachaturian, Charles Aznavour and Jivan Gasparyan – to students with Armenian roots studying at the Gnessin State Musical College for their significant successes in performing arts.

The first evening dedicated to the establishment of annual educational grants project was held on December 19, 2018 in the Organ Hall of the Gnessin State Musical College.

Young talents received grants, as well as original figurines by famous sculptor Michael Aram presented to the laureated by prominent representatives of the Armenian diaspora and members of Armenian Assembly.

Given the invaluable contribution of teachers to the cultural development of students, Armenian Assembly also awarded grants to specialized teachers.

Grant laureates were selected based on the proposals submitted by the Directorate of Gnessin State Musical College and the competent jury - Constantine Orbelian, Jivan Gasparyan, Stas Namin, Sergey Smbatyan.

FIRST LAUREATES

Decorated with the performances of the laureates, the evening was crowned by the grant awarding ceremony. For successes in performing arts, the first winners of the project were:
Karina Harutyunyan (clarinet), recipient of the Jivan Gasparyan Grant,
Ellen Virabyan (flute), recipient of the Charles Aznavour Grant,
Karina Ter-Gazaryan (piano), recipient of the Aram Khachaturian Grant
David Avetisyan (piano), recipient of the Komitas Grant.
